Introduction and Basic Skills Training in Motivational Interviewing Applied to Making Healthy Choices Regarding Health, Mental Health, and Addictions July 27, 2012 George Brenner, LCSW, LMFT, LCAC 9:00am to 4:30pm This is a highly interactive session using "real play" exercises!
Learning Objectives:
·
The trainee will be able to identify when to
use Motivational Interviewing
·
The trainee will know the Spirit of MI and
how to interview the client within that Spirit
·
The trainee will know the Principles of MI:
Develop Discrepancies, Empathy, Avoid Arguing, Roll with Resistance, and
Support Self Efficacy
·
The trainee will learn, practice, and have
initial competence in using the Micro-Skills of MI: Open Ended
Questions, Affirmations, Reflections, and Summaries
·
The trainee will be able to identify and have
initial competency in recognizing, eliciting, and supporting Change
Talk: DARN-CAT, Scaling, Looking Forward, OARS, etc.
·
The trainee will have initial competence in
how to consolidate commitment and develop a Change Plan.
·
The trainee will have basic proficiency in
managing Resistance and Sustain Talk
