Summary:

This training will dispel the myths of Domestic Abuse. The participants will receive information regarding the complex issues women experience surrounding Domestic Violence and Chemical Dependency issues. This training will also address the therapeutic approaches and implications surrounding this topic.

Objectives:

Participants will be able to role-play intervention strategies and assessment tool to utilize in their practice.
Participants will have an increased awareness of the profile of batterers, the power and control wheel, and the cycle of violence.
Participants will gain the knowledge of safety planning
Participants will become aware of what protective orders are, and how to link clients with the criminal justice system

About the Speakers:

For the past 36 years Laura has held various positions in agencies in her community. For the past 61/2 years, she has worked as a Program Director for the YWCA of St. Joseph County, directing the Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Legal Advocacy and Crisis Shelter programs. Prior to joining the YWCA, she worked as an âAt Risk Therapistâ providing crisis counseling and running Support Groups for high school students. Prior to that, she was a therapist for a private agency doing individual, family and marriage counseling.

Ivy Petra, MSW
Dual Treatment Counselor
YWCA of St. Joseph County

Ivy has worked four years in a residential setting with adults with chronic mental health disorders, many of whom also had substance abuse issues.
She has also been a DV advocate in a small, upstate New York DV shelter and one year as a DV advocate for the YWCA of St. Joseph County, and worked for two years as a Medicaid Service Coordinator working with adults with developmental disabilities, many of whom were also diagnosed with a mental health disorder.

Ivy earned her Masterâs in Social Work from Indiana University of South Bend in May of this year and was promoted to position of Dual Treatment Counselor at the YWCA where she has helped start and run a program that addresses DV and CD issues simultaneously.

Participants will be exposed to some of the most important legal, ethical, technological, and practical aspects of telemedicine 3. Participants will explore several evaluation models and common statistical tests used in mental health program evaluation 4. Participants will complete a mock evaluation to apply what they have learned 5. Participants will evaluate relevant research literature in tele-mental health About the Presenter: Jonathan Neufeld, Ph.D., H.S.P.P., is the founder and director of the Indiana Rural Health Specialty Exchange. The Exchange is a non-profit organization founded to establish an independent peer-to-peer telemedicine network in Indiana. Through INRHSE, Dr. Neufeld provides both consulting in telemedicine and direct mental health services to organizations seeking to integrate a full range of mental health services into their clinical offerings. Prior to founding INRHSE, Dr. Neufeld was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California. 2010 1st and 2nd Quarter Dates:
The ASPIN Supervisory Skills Certificate Program covers critical skills supervisors need to perform such as leadership, delegation, problem analysis, conflict, communication, teambuilding, effective supervision, and time management. The ASPIN Supervisory Skills Certificate is awarded upon completion of three full day sessions. Courses will be offered on the second Wednesday of the month from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. Classes will be held at the ASPIN Education Network office. Participants may register for individual days or for the full certificate program. Sessions can be taken out of sequence, and participants can begin the series with any session. Participants do not need to be in current supervisory roles but may attend as a preparatory step towards that goal. Class size is limited, and individuals must register at least five business days prior to training. Classes require a minimum of five participants.

PROJECT ICE | Training Dates 2010

			PROJECT ICE (INTEGRATED CARE THROUGH EDUCATION)
*Project ICE* is a three-year program, funded through the Health Resources and Services Administration, designed to improve the health and well-being of persons with mental illness and or intellectual disabilities who also manage diabetes and reside in a rural Indiana county. It is directed by a consortium of service providers that includes Anthony Wayne Services, MDwise, ADVANTAGE Care Select, and ASPIN. The initial trainings will be a series of traditional face-to-face interdisciplinary presentations for care-providers on diabetes, mental illness and intellectual disabilities and how these delivery silos can support coordinated care for the targeted population. Care-providers include Direct Support Professionals, Mental Health Case Managers, Clinicians, Certified Diabetes Educators, Nurses and any other health care professional that touches those impacted by diabetes and a mental illness or intellectual disability. Trainings are FREE and will be held in 7 regional Indiana locations beginning January, 2010. CEUâs/Contact hours are available, please visit www.indianaprojectice.org for more information. âAn application has been submitted to the Indiana State Nurses Association for approval of 4.5 contact hours. ISNA is accredited as an approver of continuing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Centerâs Commission on Accreditation.â Examples of who would benefit from Project ICE training: I work in a Group Home and want to learn more about diabetic complications. I am not certain what a HbA1C test indicates. I want to learn more about mental health services that are available for my diabetic patients that could possibly be depressed. I want to learn more about the intellectually disabled population and diabetes. I'm not familiar with the impact of some antipsychotic medications on weight gain. I want more information on how a Managed Care Care Manager can assist in locating resources for my client who is in the Care Select Medicaid program. Registration is required to attend. While ADHD is acknowledged to be a widespread disorder that often has a substantial negative impact on functioning across the lifespan, it remains a source of much controversy and misunderstanding, even among professionals. The primary goal of this seminar is to provide participants an accurate and up-to-date understanding of ADHD as it manifests itself among children, adolescents and adults. ADHD is now understood by consensus experts to be a developmental disorder of the executive abilities. An executive abilities perspective provides a practical frame work for understanding both medical and psychosocial interventions most likely to yield positive client and family outcomes. This seminar is appropriate for providers working in any treatment setting with clients of all ages who are affected by ADHD.
