2010 Dates:
The ASPIN Supervisory Skills Certificate Program covers critical skills supervisors need to perform such as leadership, delegation, problem analysis, conflict, communication, teambuilding, effective supervision, and time management.

The ASPIN Supervisory Skills Certificate is awarded upon completion of three full day sessions. Courses will be offered on the second Wednesday of the month from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. Classes will be held at the ASPIN Education Network office. Participants may register for individual days or for the full certificate program.

Sessions can be taken out of sequence, and participants can begin the series with any session. Participants do not need to be in current supervisory roles but may attend as a preparatory step towards that goal. Class size is limited, and individuals must register at least five business days prior to training. Classes require a minimum of five participants.

The last time you heard about Project ICE was probably from Bart Marshall. I have taken over from Bart as Project Manager and would like to introduce myself. If you have not heard about Project ICE, please do not hesitate to contact me at the contact info below. I also want to make you and your staff aware of some additional free training opportunities.

We successfully completed the first year face-to-face trainings throughout the state! That training has now been converted to an e-Learning version, this makes it available for anyone who missed the original training.

This year we are offering a series of webinars on medication adherence, nutrition, and exercise for the targeted populations as well.

The new of Medicaid MRO rules provide reimbursement for peer specialist services. With this development, your agency may consider providing these services, and you may be asked to supervise them. If you would like to learn more about what they are and how to incorporate into and manage them in your program, you want to take this training!

Summary:

Skills Training is one of the primary methods used by the community based mental health services to assist the persons served to achieve their recovery goals. Skill building , in fact, requires highly skilled providers who are familiar and experienced in using skills curriculum and are enthusiastic and patient teachers. This workshop reviews the basics of learning theory, teaching tools and the use of curriculum to provide psychiatric rehabilitation skill building services.

About the Speaker:

Mary Thornton, BSRN, MBA,
Is the president of MTA and its founder. She is a talented and engaging consultant and trainer with significant expertise in mental health rehabilitation reimbursement systems, medical necessity and documentation, coding and reimbursement, and corporate compliance in behavioral healthcare. She combines a Bachelor's in Nursing with an MBA to assist behavioral healthcare service systems and providers in designing efficient, high quality services and programs. Ms. Thornton was a member of the consulting teams that assisted in the conversion to rehabilitation option for the states of Illinois, Georgia, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia. She was also the lead consultant on compliance issues for the state of Ohio in its SOQIC project designed to further operational efficiency through standardized documentation and training in medical necessity and rehabilitation option services. Ms. Thornton is the author of a number of publications on corporate compliance including Ahead of the Game: Corporation Compliance for Behavioral Health and on HIPAA including the The HIPAA Handbook: What Community Behavioral Healthcare Organizations Need to Know about HIPAA. These books and others were published by the National Council of Community Behavioral Healthcare. Ms. Thornton is also published in a number of behavioral healthcare journals where she contributes articles on compliance, coding and reimbursement, HIPAA, and other topics. She is also a nationally recognized trainer and a featured speaker for many state and national associations of provider agencies.
