Four - Two Hour Webinars

In this time of ever changing laws and regulations, it is more important than ever to stay on top of the latest legal information. Julie M. Conrad, JD , SPHR , Deputy Counsel at Wishard Health Services, will present the following four, two hour, interactive sessions at ASPIN Indianapolis and via the web.

Session 1

Overview of Employment Law for Managers
6-19-08 2-4 pm

This class will provide an overview of various employment laws and legal concepts including Title VII, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978, the ADEA, retaliation, the FMLA, Indiana's statutory employment laws and employment at will. The class will utilize real case  examples to illustrate the concepts discussed.

Objectives:

  • Understand the various employment laws and concepts which affect managers and supervisors.
  • Identify situations which could result in legal claims.
  • Learn management techniques to help avoid legal claims.

Session 2

Managers Guide to ADA
7-17-08 2-4 pm

This class will provide an overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as it relates to employment.

Objectives:

  • Understand the requirements of the ADA, as it relates to employment.
  • Define and identify covered disabilities under the ADA.
  • Understand the concept of reasonable accommodation and to be able to engage in the interactive process with employees seeking reasonable accommodations.
  • Identify appropriate medical inquiries and examinations under the ADA.

Session 3

Harassment
8-14-08 2-4 pm

This class will assist managers and supervisors in identifying and preventing harassment in the workplace, in order to foster a positive work atmosphere, and avoid potential complaints and lawsuits.

Objectives:

  • Define and identify types and forms of harassment.
  • Understand what behavior creates a hostile workplace.
  • Learn methods for preventing harassment.
  • Know what to do if the manager or supervisor receives a complaint or witnesses harassment.

Session 4

Discipline and Terminations
9-18-08 2-4 pm

This class will assist managers and supervisors in learning how to properly discipline employees, and conduct terminations in a manner that reduces complaints and legal claims.

Objectives:

  • Understand the importance of documentation.
  • Learn techniques for drafting appropriate documentation.
  • Understand the importance of investigations, and learn how to conduct a disciplinary investigation.
  • Identify disciplinary situations which could lead to legal issues.
  • Learn tips for conducting terminations.

HR Directors, Managers, Supervisors

The seminars will use the interactive webinar technology from Elluminate Live. The sessions will last 2 hours.
