The ASPIN Supervisory Skills Certificate Program
covers critical skills supervisors need to perform such as
leadership, delegation, problem analysis, conflict, communication,
team building, effective supervision, and time management. The ASPIN
Supervisory Skills Certificate is awarded upon completion of all

Leadership
Learning Objectives:
• Learn the qualities and characteristics of an effective leader;
• Examine the differences between leading and managing;
• Explore the 8 Universal Laws of Leadership;
• Learn the importance of balancing directiveness and supportiveness with readiness;
• Identify situations in which each of the 4 leadership styles is appropriate.
• Develop a personal leadership action plan.
Delegation
Learning Objectives:
• Examine what you currently delegate
• Explore why supervisors often don’t delegate
• Examine why employees often resist delegation
• Examine importance of the balance among responsibility, authority, and accountability
• Learn a process for effective delegation
• Practice delegating a task
Analyzing Performance Problems
Learning Objectives:
• Learn how to use the
• Performance Analysis Flow Chart.
• Be able to utilize the three step process to defining a performance problem.
• Practice setting clear job performance expectations and measurable results.

Communication for Supervisors

• Improve listening habits.
• Learn to interpret the meaning of messages.

• Learn how to provide clear instructions.
• Be able to assess team communication and effectiveness.
Team Building

• Identify the components needed to make a team work well.
• Understand the importance of building a diverse team.

Module Three
Managing Employee to Employee Conflict
• Learning Objectives:
• Identify three types of conflict.
• Discuss Generational Conflict
• Name at least one cost and one benefit of conflict.
• Identify your resolution style.
• Be able to explain the role of the intervener.
• Identify at least two tools for conflict resolution.
• Give one example of meditation
• Be able to name the three types of workplace violence.
• Articulate the basics of coaching and mentoring by the end of the training.
