Register

Many people live the psychological impact of traumatic experiences, loss and grief. This seminar will target the psychological, social and spiritual dimensions of living with trauma for individuals across the lifespan.
A combination of lecture, case study, group discussion and interaction will be used to explore:

  • The impact of trauma, loss and grief on daily functioning  

  • The effect of trauma on relationships in family systems       

  • Intervention strategies for several case examples.     

  • The lifespan implication of unresolved issues  

 

Participants will:       

  • Recognize the effects of trauma, loss and grief for children, adolescents, adults, and those nearing end of life.     

  • Identify the impact of the shadows of these past events on current functioning and symptoms.       

  • Engage in relationships that acknowledge the uniqueness of these challenges, and offer assistance in moving toward health and wholeness.         

  • Conceptualize and construct interventions strategies for children, adolescents, adults and seniors.

The Speaker:

Ken Weaver MA, M Div, LCSW, LMFT, CADAC IV has 30 years experience in the mental health/substance abuse fields, as well as in the clergy. In two Indiana community mental health centers, he has held a variety of positions, including staff therapist, substance abuse counselor, pastoral counselor, area director, and senior clinical director.
Ken is currently Hospice Chaplain for Parkview Health Systems, Fort Wayne, an adjunct faculty in Purdue University's graduate counselor education program at Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne teaching Family Systems Theory and Technique, Beginning Clinical Practice, and Advanced Clinical Practice, and a Clinical Consultant and Trainer for Northeast Indiana Special Education Cooperative, and several other organizations, churches, families and individuals.
Also, Ken is Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, LaGrange, Indiana.    
Ken has earned his Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, and his Master of Divinity degree in Pastoral Counseling and Biblical Studies from the Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Indiana.
